The TBDC recently received an amazing acknowledgement of their many years of advocacy on behalf of the people of New Mexico. Dr. Elizabeth González Cárdenas, a professor at UNM in the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department (CCS) notified the TBDC that a committee from UNM, CCS nominated Tina Cordova and the Tularosa Basin Downwinders Consortium for the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) Community Award.
This year, the NACCS national convention was held in Albuquerque and the award was presented at the banquet on Friday April 4, 2025. Attending the event to represent the TBDC were Steering Committee members Bernice Gutierrez and her daughter Jeanne Gutierrez, Dr. Alicia Romero, and Tina Cordova. “It was truly wonderful to be acknowledged by the NACCS. Obviously, this organization understands the struggles of people who are often marginalized and sees the TBDC’s work as worthy of this high honor” said Tina Cordova, Co-Founder of the TBDC.
